Comments: I am searching for William M Gilbert. Some records show he was born in St. Keverne, and I would like to confirm that. He was born abt 1794 and at some point migrated to the United States, but I don't know when or were he entered the US. He lived and died Oneida, Madison County, New York

Comments: Greetings to all and many thanks for the opportunity to post. I'm a descendant of John Matthews and Caroline Rowe (m 1832) who emigrated to Victoria along with their six children on the John Knox in 1851. The Matthews family was prominent in St. Keverne's, Ruan Minor, Ruan Major, Sithney and Perin. I am keen to hear from anyone with knowledge of this family or earlier generations such as Anthony Matthews and Alice Bray (Gette?), John Matthews and Margaret Pollard, George Matthews and Grace Mathew, William Mathews and Faithley Potter or Joshua Matthew and his wife Aridian. I would be delighted to receive any information no matter how trivial and likewise be happy to assist with any inquiries that may benefit others.

Comments: May be you could help me or guide me to the “address”. I’m looking for a maritime inquiry. The ship is the 176ft Juno, a small Norwegian steamer of 611 tons. Hit the Carn-du in fog on 3 July, 1915, the wreck lies just to the south-west of the rock at 50 02 36; 05 02 58W. She was heading for the Mersey from Le Treport, in France, in ballast, and stayed afloat for some time before sinking by the bow. Depth 20m.
Admin reply: The well-spread wreckage of the 176ft Juno, a small Norwegian steamer of 611 tons which hit Carn-du in fog on 3 July, 1915, lies just to the south-west of the rock at 50 02 36; 05 02 58W. She was heading for the Mersey from Le Treport, in France, in ballast, and stayed afloat for some time before sinking by the bow. Depth 20m. Her big anchor, winches and propeller are clear, though she becomes heavily kelped in summer. She can be dived on most of the ebb tide as Carn-du provides shelter.
