Thank you for this wonderful site. My great, great grandparents, John and Elizabeth Retallack were Agricultural Labourers at Rosenithon, Cornwall in the 1830's to early 1850's when they emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1852 with several children. The youngest (John Jnr.) was born in 1850 and was my great grandfather. Three of their daughters married into the Schofield family here in western Sydney and my line is from John Retallack Jnr. who married Sarah Jane Smith (nee Carney). They knew the Boulden family who rented a farming property in western Sydney and Sarah Jane and John met through the Boulden family. I am also related to Nicholls, Trengrouse families from Cornwall. I was wondering what farm life would have been for the Retallack's at Rosenithon in the 1830 - 1850's. Kind regards, Thea Webster

Great site and thank you to all the volunteers for all the information. I have traced my tree back to the 1600's, with the Bouldens, Incledons, Nicolls to the immediate area of St Keverne and also other families scattered throughout cornwall and devon. I visit England in the 80's and only wish I had known what I know now, because I would have made a definite effort to tour around all of Cornwall

I discovered your website and the fascinating history of your community purely by chance. Reading an article on Wikipedia about Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, wife of American novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald, I clicked on a hyperlink that launched an article about Isabella Duncan, the exiled American dancer and contemporary of the Fitzgeralds. The article mentioned that Isabella Duncan's father, along with his third wife and their daughter, died in the sinking of the Mohegan. I'd never heard of the incident, so I clicked through to read about it. Wikipedia linked me to your account, which it cited as a reference.

My Martinson Family Tree research has led me to St Keverne and this excellent website. I am particularly intetested in the wreck of the Norwegian barque "Anne Elizabeth" which foundered on the Manacles rocks on 26th November 1895. The disaster was covered by many UK newspapers. Of the 9 crew, 4 initially survived, though one of them died soon afterwards, but 5 crew drowned of which 4 were soon buried in St Keverne. The remaining drowned sailor, the ship's carpenter, was lost at sea/body not recovered. "The Cornishman" 26/12/1895 reported that this body was washed ashore at Coverack in late December 1895, and I believe him to be my great-grandfather Carl Gustaf Martinsson, about whom almost nothing is known by my family other than he was Scandinavian. Carl Gustaf's third and last child, my grandfather, was born many months after his father's death, so would never have met him. I would love to hear from anyone who may have information relating to this tragic story.

Grandfather as Francis Keverne born 1776 St.Keverne , His son John Keverne in St. Keverne 1812 his son John Keverne born 183 7 in St. Just, his Daughter Elizabeth Kevern born 1861 St. Just, She married Noah James, In 1878 in St. Just ,Their son Noah Keverne James born in St. Just, Married Violetta Harris came to America in 1900. Two daughters, Viola born 1904, Elva Nora born 1911 Butte County Californa, Elva Married Vernon Albertus Hodgin. My father's name Thomas Keverne Hodgin. Hodgin May have been Hodgson, at one time.

Great website, I'm planning to visit the area later this summer as I love the local history and amazing scenery, I lived for couple of years as a young child at Poldowrian Farm in 1967-69. I'm also planning to walk the whole coastal foot past and hope there is some rough weather to add to the ambiance.

There was a relative of mine called James Pengilly. He was married to Johanna Carlyon. In the 1881 census it shows Johanne living at Trelease Mill, St Keverne aged 30 with her parents Samson and Elizabeth Carlyon and she is down as a blacksmith's wife and child Annie and they are lodging there. They later turned up in Ingham Street, Coburg Australia where they died. James died there aged 75 and she died there in 1926 aged 76. Just wondered if there is anyone in St Keverne who is related to Johanna and knows a bit more about their life? I would be very interested.
